Senior Manager Retail Credit Risk in Belfast

An opportunity currently exists at Ulster Bank for the position of Senior Manager Retail Credit Risk. The prime function of this division is to ensure that Retail Credit Risk policies and processes effectively mitigate risk and support Ulster Bank Group’s strategic objectives.

Background to the role:
- The successful candidate for this role will manage a Portfolio Management team for Retail portfolios, ensuring all portfolios operate within expected credit risk appetite parameters.
- They will lead the development, production and presentation of portfolio analysis to monitor and manage credit performance.
- Collaboration with key business stakeholders to implement appropriate credit management solutions
- Manage Retail Credit projects within UBG and represent the department at Executive Steering Groups as appropriate.
Deliverables
- Critically evaluates and recommends risk appetite proposals at Group, divisional or business unit level through engagement on sector reviews, new product proposals, budgets, scorecard cut off changes, policy amendments, etc and provides support or recommendation for change in light of market intelligence and emerging portfolio trends.
- Ensures regular and appropriate portfolio MI, including stress tests and portfolio forecasts, is produced, reviewed and key drivers of business performance are understood.
- Identifies situations where asset quality does not meet expectations, identifies causes and makes recommendations for amendment of risk appetite where appropriate.
- Influences the risk appetite discussion and the design and development of the supporting the Credit Risk Management Framework (CRMF) e.g. through the management of research on current issues and best practices and the drafting proposals for discussion.
- Circulates proposals for consultation, collates and evaluates feedback and updates proposals appropriately.
- Prepares and presents papers for or participates in credit policy, country risk, sector concentration, single name concentration, credit quality assurance, risk measurement, risk management or similar committees/fora and provides secretarial support where required.
Experience
- Previous management experience in a Credit / Business risk related area.
- Well developed understanding of the concepts of credit risk.
- Experience of leading and managing a team.
- Strong gravitas, communication and presentation skills, in managing staff and engaging with Senior Management Stakeholders
- Ability to build and maintain networks of colleagues across the organisation.

Technical Knowledge:
- Credit risk strategy, policies, minimum standards, processes and systems. Has an in-depth knowledge of Credit risk policies and associated credit processes.
- Credit Risk methodologies including analysis tools and techniques.
